A decision drawing in a sketchbook
Why this works

You don’t need more information. You need to trust what you know.

There’s a moment most of us know well. You have a decision to make. Two options. You write them down, think them through, sleep on them, ask a friend, ask your coach, post in your group chat... and still land back at square one.

Not because you don’t know what to do.

Because you don’t trust that you know.

A few months ago, I was invited on a trip. It sounded good on paper. But when I sat with it, there was no firm yes inside me. Not a no either. Just noise. So I did something simple. I put both options in front of me and did a short drawing exercise. Not to figure it out. To get out of my head and into my body.

Five minutes later, I had my answer. Not because the drawing told me what to do. Because it helped me hear what I already knew.

That’s what this checklist is for.

Before you start

You already have the answer.

It’s how the mind works. The problem isn’t that you don’t know. The problem is that overthinking drowns out the signal. A few principles I come back to with clients:

You are OK as you are.

You don’t need to be fixed before you’re allowed to decide. You’re already enough to make this call.

You have all the resources you need.

Not more information, more time or more opinions. What you need is already inside you.

You make the best choice available.

There’s no wrong decision. There’s only the most aligned one for where you are right now.

You are driven by positive intentions.

Whatever you’re weighing, you’re trying to get it right. That already tells you something about yourself.

Change is inevitable.

Whichever option you choose, things will shift. The question is which direction feels most like you.

It isn’t about art.

The drawing is a 5-minute process that bypasses the analytical loop and connects you to your real response.

What you need

Paper, a pen and this video.

Watch it before you start the drawing step. You don’t need to be able to draw.

The checklist

7 steps. 5 minutes.

0 of 7 done
1

Name your options.

Write them down on paper. Two or three, maximum. If you have more than three, shortlist first.

Be specific. Not “launch soon” vs “wait.” Write the actual dates, words and names. Your brain can’t settle what it can’t clearly see.

2

Put the decision down for 60 seconds.

Step away from the list. Take a few slow breaths. You’re not trying to relax. You’re shifting from reactive mode to receptive mode.

If your mind jumps straight back to the options, that’s normal. Let it. Then come back.

3

Watch the video and do the drawing.

Follow along as I guide you. You’ll place each option on paper and move through a simple process that connects your nervous system to your response. Open the video ↑

4

Notice what happens in your body.

Not what you think. What you feel. Does one option feel tight? Heavy? Does another feel lighter, even if it scares you a little? That contrast is information. You’re not looking for certainty. You’re looking for a lean.

5

Say your answer out loud.

Before you write it down, say it. To yourself, to the room, to no one in particular. You’ll notice immediately whether it lands, or whether something in you resists. That reaction is data.

6

Write it down and declare it.

Not “I’m thinking about...” Not “I’m leaning toward...” Write: I’m doing [X].

This is where most people stop short. They feel the clarity and then start hedging it. Don’t. Write it clearly and completely.

7

Close the loop.

You’ve decided. Now close the other options. Not forever, not dramatically. Just for now. The energy that was split across two or three possibilities now has one place to go. That’s why it feels like relief.

In real life

Small decisions. Big ones too.

When I was invited on that trip, putting both options through the drawing made the answer immediate. Not going didn’t feel like a loss. It felt like space. That settled feeling told me everything.

More recently, I had three workshop ideas and couldn’t choose which one to start with. Each one felt important. I sat with them, did the drawing, and within five minutes had a clear answer. Not because one idea was objectively better. Because that one was right for me, right now.

Both times I moved forward without going back. No spiral. No asking around. Just a decision made and mental space cleared.

What shifts after

Decide once. Let it hold.

No more “did I make the right call?”

The process gives you a felt sense of rightness, not just a logical justification.

Less need for outside approval.

You start trusting your own read more than you trust the group chat.

Faster, not careless.

When you’re connected to your own answer, the decision comes quickly. And it holds.

More mental space.

Every open decision is a small weight. Close them properly and you’ll feel the difference.

If you want to go deeper

Stop Asking for Permission.

If the second-guessing, the waiting for permission, the not-quite-trusting-yourself is a pattern you’re ready to change, this workshop goes to the root of it.

We work directly with the subconscious patterns that keep you circling the same decisions and waiting for someone else to confirm what you already know. Instant access to the recording, under two hours.
